Product Care & Washing GuideUpdated 4 days ago

GARMENT CARE MATTERS
Proper care extends the life of your gear. At Helly Hansen, our garments are built to perform — and regular cleaning and maintenance help keep them that way. Each garment includes a unique care label on the inside — please refer to this label for the most accurate guidance.

WASHING BASICS

  • Use a technical wash such as Grangers, Nikwax, or McNett

  • If not available, use a liquid detergent with no additives — avoid perfumes, foam, or fabric softeners

  • Always wash your HH® garment on its own

  • Run an extra rinse cycle to fully remove detergent, which can affect waterproof performance

  • Follow your garment’s label for the correct temperature setting

Ideal for: All Helly Hansen outerwear, rainwear, ski gear, and base layers

STAIN REMOVAL & HEAVY CLEANING

Spot Cleaning Steps:

  1. Apply a small amount of technical wash directly to the stain

  2. Blot gently with a damp cloth

  3. Avoid heating (e.g., tumble drying) until the stain is fully removed

For heavily soiled items:

  • Wash the item twice back-to-back (no drying between cycles)

  • Always perform an extra rinse

  • Only dry once detergent and stain residue are fully removed

Tip: If the stain persists, avoid drying the garment until it’s fully clean — heat can set the stain permanently.

DRYING & DWR REACTIVATION
After washing, dry your Helly Hansen garment according to the care label — this often includes tumble drying to reactivate the DWR (Durable Water Repellency).

If your jacket isn’t repelling water (i.e., droplets are soaking in instead of beading off), the DWR may need to be reapplied.

REPROOFING YOUR JACKET
Over time, DWR treatments wear off. You can reapply them using a spray-on or wash-in treatment.

Recommended brands:

  • Nikwax

  • Grangers

  • McNett

Reproofing steps:

  1. Wash the jacket first and rinse thoroughly

  2. Apply DWR treatment (spray or wash-in, per instructions)

  3. Tumble dry or hang dry in shade (as per garment label)

Note: LIFA® Infinity Pro™ gear does not require DWR reapplication.
