Helly Hansen AU – What is RECCO®?
SECTION: RECCO® – SEARCHABLE SAFETY IN THE MOUNTAINS
RECCO® is a built-in rescue technology used to help locate people in the outdoors — especially in avalanches or remote mountain environments. It’s a passive reflector system that allows search and rescue teams to find you using a RECCO® detector.
RECCO® is a non-powered, lightweight, and permanent feature found in select Helly Hansen jackets and ski apparel.
SECTION: HOW DOES RECCO® WORK?
The RECCO® system consists of two parts:
RECCO® Reflector (in your garment):
A small, integrated reflector sewn into your jacket, pants, or gear — it requires no power, maintenance, or activation.RECCO® Detector (used by rescuers):
A handheld device that emits a directional radar signal and listens for a return echo from the reflector. This echo helps search teams pinpoint your location.
📡 RECCO® is used by over 900 ski resorts, mountain rescue teams, and helicopter bases worldwide.
SECTION: WHERE IS RECCO® LOCATED ON MY GEAR?
In Helly Hansen apparel, the RECCO® reflector is typically sewn into the upper arm, hood, or chest area of jackets and other technical outerwear.
Each product page will indicate whether the item includes RECCO® technology.
SECTION: IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT RECCO®
RECCO® does not replace an avalanche transceiver, probe, or beacon.
It is not GPS-based and does not emit a signal — it reflects signals sent by professional search equipment.
It’s designed for resort-accessible backcountry and areas with organised rescue.
Think of RECCO® as an added layer of safety, not a substitute for full avalanche safety gear and training.
SECTION: WHY CHOOSE GEAR WITH RECCO®?
✔ Increases your searchability in the event of an avalanche or mountain rescue
✔ Requires no charging, maintenance, or setup
✔ Integrated discreetly into outerwear
✔ Trusted by global ski patrol and search & rescue teams
